Desert Cats Slot
- A nice use of the Wild symbols which appear on every spin
- Ability to win one of several jackpots which could be quite valuable
- A pretty boring theme with a lacklustre design
Desert Cats slot comes to you from WMS with a simple design and theme, but some more unusual features and even some jackpots up for grabs. Of course, just because something is different it doesn’t make it good, so let’s take a closer look at how things work and whether it’s worth your time.
Desert Cats slot has a very common theme based on Ancient Egypt. Scientific Games seem to love this kind of theme but I have to say I’m not such a fan as it’s so overused. The graphics are only average at best too so I’m not that impressed with the overall appearance. What I do like is the 7×4 reel setup which offers 50 paylines for you to try and get a win on. To do this, simply spin the reels to land the base symbols in the right way from left to right and get a cash reward or a Bonus. These base symbols are listed as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- 10, Jack, Queen, King or Ace (lowest value)
- Ankh, Tablet or Sphinx Head
- Cat
- Golden Cat Head or Empress (highest value)
The Golden Cat Head is a special symbol in Desert Cats slot because it serves as a Wild symbol. This means it will substitute for all other symbols in a winning combination apart from the Scatter symbol. Furthermore, it can appear as either a single 1×1 symbol or a 2×2 symbol to help out further. The 2×2 Wild symbol can also contain gems. These ones are only part of the base game, while the ones without gems are only available during the Free Spins Bonus. The Scatter symbol is shown as a Lion and is used for the Bonus as you’ll soon see.
Desert Cats Slot Bonuses and Features
Base Game Features. The base game in Desert Cats slot is pretty unique. In every base game spin there will be 2 reels adjacent to each other which will be replaced by 2 2×2 Wild symbols (the ones with gems). Now, the gems are actually important because they can give you a jackpot. This works as follows:
- 6 red gems will give you a Minor Jackpot, awarding 10x your total bet.
- 7 red gems will give you a Medium Jackpot, awarding 40x your total bet.
- 8 red gems will give you a Major Jackpot, awarding 80x your total bet.
- 9 red gems will give you a Super Jackpot, awarding 600x your total bet.
- 10 red gems will give you a Mega Jackpot, awarding 2000x your total bet.
This isn’t bad for a base game feature, but I would have liked to have seen the Mega Jackpot be worth a bit more, maybe 3000x your total bet.
Free Spins Bonus. In order to trigger this you need to land 3, 4 or 5 Scatter symbols shown as a Lion anywhere on the reels at the same time. 3 of these will just give you 5 free spins, 4 will give you 15 free spins plus a 10x total bet cash reward and 5 will give you the maximum (and much more generous) 50 free spins with 15x your total bet as a payout. You can also win 5 more free spins by landing another 3 Scatter symbols during the Bonus. During the free spins, you’ll have 2 sets of 2 adjacent reels replaced by Wild symbols to help you get even more wins.
Conclusion
Desert Cats slot from WMS is really fascinating and pretty different to what we’re used to seeing. For a start, there’s the unique reel layouts at 7×4 reels. This allows the unique feature of having the 2×2 Wild symbols adjacent to eachother on every spins, and even more of them during the Free Spins Bonus. The great thing is that they can also give you some jackpots from time to time. The smaller wins will obviously come more regularly, but it’s nice to have the ability to win up to 2,000x in just a base spin. All in all, Desert Cats slot is pretty impressive and a good change from what we’re used to so be sure to check it out. Also leave a comment down below and let us know what you think.
