Double Stacks slot is a brand new game from Netent and this time we’ve been introduced to a new feature which shares its name with the title of the slot itself. It’s the main attraction to the slot, and without going into too much detail just yet and I’ll explain all the features more thoroughly shortly, it essentially doubles certain symbols so that they count as 2 rather than 1, giving you a better chance of getting a win and hopefully making you some extra money. Aside from that feature though, the gameplay is pretty basic here.
For a start, we have a 5×3 reel setup featuring some classic fruity symbols and bars. I actually really like the look of this slot, the graphics are pretty decent and the colours are very striking. It’s simple, but it works well in my opinion. You only have 10 paylines here and I would have liked to see have seen more, but many of you won’t mind too much I’m sure. To start, you need to spin the reels in order to get a winning combination from left to right using the following base symbols which are listed in ascending order:
- Watermelon, Lemon, Plum or Cherry (lowest value)
- Bell
- Bar
- Seven
- Diamond (highest value)
As you’d expect, there’s a Wild symbol as well as the above base symbol shown in the form of a golden star, and this symbol will substitute for all other symbols in a winning combination.
The 4 highest paying symbols, the Bell, Bar, Seven and Diamond symbols, can show up stacked on the reels during the base game.
Double Stacks Slot Bonuses and Features
Double Stacks Feature. If a reel stops and all the symbols on it are the same, then the symbols will double. What that means is that each symbol on the reel counts as 2, giving you a better chance of getting a win and hopefully making for a much higher payout. It only works for the spin on which the symbols land.
Free Spins Feature. Like most slot, the Free Spins Feature is triggered by 3 or more Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels at the same time. 3 Scatter symbols will award you with 5 free spins, 4 will give you 15 free spins and 5 will give you the maximum 30 free spins. There’s not much of a change in terms of the gameplay during the free spins, but as well as having the 4 highest paying symbols appearing stacked on the reels, the Wild symbols also appear either on the reels or in stacked. Additionally, you can actually retrigger the Free Spins Feature by landing 2 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. 2 of them will give you 2 free spins, 3 will give you 5, 4 will give you 15 and lastly 5 will give you another 30 free spins.
Conclusion
Double Stacks from Netent really caught my attention because it has some pretty original features that really stand out and set the game apart. The Double Stacks Feature, clearly the main attraction to this game as the title would suggest, is a really cool concept and gives you a much better chance of getting a win. It’s pretty cool and works fairly well, but this slot is let down a bit by not having much else to go with it. Sure, it has a Free Spins Feature, but what slot doesn’t? And this one really isn’t that special. I like what Netent have introduced here and think it’s a cool feature, but I don’t think it should be the main feature of the slot, just an additional feature to some other higher paying features because as it stands, Double Stacks slot just isn’t as rewarding as we’d like.
