- A different slot from Playtech with a unique feature
- A great design with climbing koalas
- A fun concept but lacks good payouts
Fear The Bear slot from Playtech is a wild slot that has a very fun and unique feature that certainly draws you in. The question is, is it actually any good and does it pay out?
The design is one of the most striking features of this slot, with huge trees set above the reels for your furry koala friends to climb. This is part of one of the features as we’ll see below. There are 5 reels here with 4 different rows offering 50 paylines in total. You need to get a win from left to right using the base symbols for a cash payout. These are as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- 9, 10 or Jack (lowest value)
- Queen, King or Ace
- Bird (highest value)
There are 2 other symbols in the game to be aware of. One of these is the wild symbol, shown as a koala. It appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, substituting for all other symbols in a winning combination apart from the scatter symbol. The scatter symbols is actually the move valuable symbol in a winning combination and is used to trigger the main bonus as we’ll soon see.

Fear The Bear Slot Bonuses and Features
Wild Drop Feature. This is the most interesting and unique feature of the game that I can honestly say I haven’t seen before. Whenever a wild symbol appears, it will climb to the top of the reel it landed on once payouts have been made. It will then be collected above the reel until you have a total of 4 on that reel. Once you have 4 of them on the tree, they will drop down on the reel below before payouts are made. If other reels also have 4 koalas above them, they can all fall during the same spin. This feature is available during both the free spins bonus and the base game.
Free Spins Bonus. For this you need to land 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels at the same time. This will give you 10, 15 or 25 free spins, respectively. Unfortunately, there isn’t really anything special about this free spins bonus. As I already mentioned, the wild drop feature is still in play here, but there’s nothing different about it.
Playtech have created a fun and unique design with Fear The Bear slot and it has great potential, but I really think they’ve missed the mark. The wild drop feature is cool and pretty fun, but the main bonus, the free spins bonus, is very lacking. They haven’t added anything special for the free spins which makes them dull and rather unrewarding. The payouts on offer with this slot in general are disappointingly low, and I can’t really recommend this slot to anyone. It’s a real shame that a fun concept like this has been wasted; I’d recommend some other Playtech slots like this one instead.
