Fortunium Slot
- A well-designed slot from Microgaming with a steampunk theme
- A few good bonuses focused mainly around free spins
- All in all a solid offering, although gameplay could be more varied
Fortunium slot is brought to you by Microgaming and was announced earlier this year at the ICE conference. The interesting thing here is that despite being produced under the name Microgaming, it’s actually the work of an unknown company called Stormcraft Studios of which there is little information so for simplicity I will simply refer to the game as a Microgaming production until more news develops. The overall design here is based on the steampunk style but in a more cheerful kind of way than you might expect.
In terms of the graphics they are very impressive and there’s a great deal of detail to be marvelled at. The design reminds me a lot of Temperance slot but this time set above ground in a more colourful environment. The background especially looks fantastic and overall I think Microgaming have done an excellent job here. Moving on to the gameplay then, this is a slightly more unusual 5×5 layout compared to the very common 5×4 and 5×3 grids we typically see and there are 40 pay lines. The minimum bet here is just 10p going up to a maximum of £125. The aim of the game is standard, to get a winning combination using the base symbols from left to right in order to win money or a bonus. These base symbols are listed as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- Clubs (lowest value)
- Diamonds
- Hearts
- Spades
- Gun
- Zeppelin
- Chest
- Maximillian or Victoria
- Wild
- Scatter (highest value)
Victoria and Maximillian are stacked 5 symbols high while all other high and low symbols are double stacked. The Wild symbol also serves as any other symbol apart from the Scatter symbol in a winning combination. The Scatter symbol, as well as being the most valuable symbol in its own right, also leads to a bonus which I shall discuss below
Fortunium Slot Bonuses and Features
Win Booster. This is an interesting inclusion for Microgaming which allows players who press the button (located to the bottom left of the reels) to filter out all low-value symbols during the game. This, of course, doesn’t come for free and will cost you a 50% increase to your bet.
Mystery Symbols Feature. This is activated when a Mystery symbol lands on the reels in the form of a question mark. It then reveals a randomly chosen symbol to become another symbol apart from the Scatter symbol.
Free Spins Bonus. Microgaming have included a Free Spins Bonus here which is triggered by 3 or more Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the screen. These are shown in the form of a green orb of some sort and only appear on reels 2, 3 or 4. You will be awarded 10 free spins at the start of the bonus and every Scatter symbol that appears during the free games will provide you with an additional free game. Furthermore, you will also be awarded mystery reels based on how many scatters there are. 3 Scatter symbols will give you 1 mystery reel, 4 will give you 2 and 5 will give you 3. These mystery reels only have the high-value cards and Wild symbols so you can get some big rewards during this bonus, with a full screen of Wilds giving you 800x your bet leading to a potential 8,000x bet reward during the bonus, theoretically.
Conclusion
So there you have it. Fortunium slot has quite a lot to offer and will certainly appeal to quite a few players. The design I think is excellent and I’m glad they haven’t gone as dark as some similar themes so that it appeals to a wider audience. The gameplay is relatively basic and I think it would have been nice to see some more base game features just to help keep the slot engaging. The Free Spins Bonus, however, has the potential to be very rewarding so that’s certainly what you should be aiming for. Microgaming certainly think Fortunium slot has potential with all the attention they’re giving it so I think it’s certainly worth your time to check out.
