- A new retro design set deep in the sewers
- Pay anywhere system set on a 6×6 grid
- Multipliers must be activated in order to work
I love a good retro theme and Rat King certainly delivers on that with an 8-bit design set deep in the sewers, home of the Rat King. It’s a bit dark and gloomy but it stands out and I like the originality here. There’s a large 6×6 grid to play on but instead of pay lines you have a pay anywhere system. Just keep an eye out for the base symbols that are as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- Blue Sweet
- Doughnut
- Lolly
- Lemon Cake
- Raspberry Cake
- Jelly

Rat King Slot Bonuses and Features
Cascades. This game uses cascades, meaning winning symbols are removed from the reels to allow new ones to fall in from above, potentially creating more wins and if this happens, the process repairs until there are no more wins to be had.
Dud Symbols. These symbols are greyed out versions of the regular symbols above. If you manage to get at least 7 of a kind dud symbols, they will be cleared to make way for new symbols.
Star Symbol. This is a multiplier symbol with the value of the multiplier shown on each star. It can be collected in collection boxes to be used.
Rat King Symbol. The rat king symbol serves as a scatter and is also collected in collection boxes. You need 3 of these to trigger the main bonus.
Collection Boxes. These boxes are placed at the bottom of the grid and when a star symbol is collected in one, its multiplier is added to the multiplier counter for that round. When the rat king symbol is collected, it contributes to the free spins bonus.
Free Spins Bonus. This is triggered with 3, 4 or 5 rat king scatters, giving you 10, 15 or 20 free spins. You can also get an extra 3 spins by collecting another rat king symbol during the bonus. Here you still collect star symbol multipliers, but they do not reset after each spin.
Bonus Buy. This isn’t available in the U.K. of course, but some can buy the bonus outright for 100x, 250x or 500x your stake, giving you 10, 15 or 20 free spins, with 20 also giving you the highest RTP of 96.93%.
Conclusion
Rat King slot from Push Gaming has a nice retro theme to it and a rather dark design set in the sewers that I’m not quite sure if I like, but it’s original at least. It plays out on a large 6×6 grid with the pay anywhere system instead of usual pay lines. The goal is to collect star symbols for multipliers, and rat king scatters to trigger the free spins bonus where multipliers don’t reset so they can get much higher here, with the maximum win potential at 10,000x your stake. It does have to be activated on each free spin though which can be annoying. Overall, a fun game to play with interesting features.
