- A new ‘book of’ slot from PlayNGo
- Overused Egypt theme is a bit disappointing
- A solid slot but nothing new
Secret of Dead slot from PlayNGo certainly doesn’t have a very secret name, because we all know this is a new version of the original book of dead from the same developer. It’s certainly been very popular, sparking a huge number of variations from PlayNGo and other developers too. Let’s take a look and see if this one sets itself apart enough to be worth your time.
The theme certainly doesn’t stand out, with the classic Ancient Egypt look that admittedly has nice graphics and is well layed out, but it’s far from original. There’s a set of 6 reels and 3 rows to give you 10 pay lines. All you need is a winning combination from left tor right using the base symbols. These are as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- 10, Jack, Queen or King
- Snake or Scarab

Secret Of Dead Slot Bonuses and Features
Wild Scatter. Like most games, you have a wild symbol available here that substitutes for all others in a winning combination. However, it’s also a scatter symbols, shown as an Ankh, meaning that it can pay on its own when in random, non-adjacent positions on the reel, though you need at least 3 of them to get a payout with a maximum of 6 appearing at any one time. As the scatter, it also triggers the free spins bonus.
Free Spins Bonus. For this, you need 3 or more scatters anywhere on the reels. Now, a special symbol will be chosen to expand whenever it lands, even if not adjacent to another. The most valuable symbol is Shai, who comes with a 2x multiplier for bigger rewards. Additionally, you can retrigger the bonus by landing more scatters. This will also give you an extra expanding symbol, and there is no limit to this until all symbols become expanding.
Secret of Dead slot from PlayNGo is their latest variation of the popular book of dead slot, with many other developers also copying its features. As with most of them, there’s nothing too new here. Obviously you have expanding symbols in the free spins bonus, but you do have the ability to retrigger and get more which is nice. The theme is obviously of ancient Egypt which I understand, but as you know it’s not my favourite theme as it’s so overused. All in all, there really isn’t that much new here. If you enjoy ‘book of’ slots, you’ll probably like this one as it’s as good as the rest, but if you’re tired of them this one won’t change your mind. We have plenty of other PlayNGo slot reviews you may want to check out here though.
