The Ruby Slot

[usr 3]

  • A simple looking slot with some classic symbols
  • Can trigger 3 of 5 reels to become Wild for some extra wins
  • Jackpots on offer through main bonus, as well as free spins

The Ruby slot comes to you from iSoftBet with a more traditional design and some all-important jackpots on offer. You can certainly win some decent rewards here, but is it enough to compete with some of the bigger names out there?

Speaking of the design, The Ruby slot has a pretty simple one with a red background and clear white reels with some of the iconic symbols present like the Red Seven and Cherries. I don’t mind it and I think some will appreciate its clarity, but I prefer more animations and detail personally. With 30 paylines and an RTP of 97.5%, you need to spin the reels to try and get a winning combination from left to right using the base symbols. These are listed as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:

  • Bar (lowest value)
  • Cherries
  • Bell
  • Cash
  • Dollar Symbol
  • Red Seven
  • Red Ruby
  • Wild (highest value)

The Ruby Slot Bonuses and Features

As you can see, the Wild symbol in The Ruby slot is the most valuable and by a significant margin. However, it’s a bit disappointing that it only substitutes for the above symbols apart from the Ruby itself. This isn’t something you see very often and it’s a bit of a shame, but seeing as The Ruby symbol appears only during the free spins and has some special properties (see below) this isn’t too much of an issue.

Ruby On Fire. On a regular paid spin, reels 1, 3 and 5 can randomly become Wild reels (either 1, 2 or all 3 of them). Furthermore, the reels that aren’t Wild can generate some extra Wild symbols themselves meaning you could get some pretty nice payouts here.

Bonus. The Bonus round, known simply as the Bonus, is triggered by 3 Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5. It’s very simple, all you have to do is spin the wheel to win one of the following rewards:

  • Ruby Jackpot
  • Topaz Jackpot
  • Cherry Jackpot
  • Up to 100x your total bet
  • Up to 10 free spins and 5x total bet.

If you manage to land 10 free spins in the Bonus there are a few things to note. Firstly, the Ruby symbol is only available during the free spins which is nice as it’s a high value symbol of course. It also has some special properties and can do one of the following:

  • Become a sticky Wild until the end of the free spins.
  • Become an extended stick wild until the end of the free spins.

Give you an instant prize up to 10x your total bet.  It’s worth noting that both the Bonus round and free spins cannot be retriggered.

Conclusion

The Ruby slot is a relatively simple game from iSoftBet. The design is just a simple set of 5 reels with 3 rows with little in the way of animations or great detail. The features are a bit unusual and different from the norm, but unfortunately they lack the excitement I was hoping for. The main things you’ll be looking for are jackpots of course with the chance to get free spins too, and the Ruby n Fire feature which can actually provide some nice payouts with enough Wild symbols. I wouldn’t say The Ruby slot is bad, but I just don’t think it doesn’t enough to make it a strong competitor to other slots out there like the recently reviewed Battleship Direct Hit! slot.
