Rainbow Riches Treasure Train is a £500 jackpot Category B3 slot from Light & Wonder that takes the familiar Rainbow Riches theme and combines it with a train-based feature, stacked reels, expanding wilds and multiple layered bonus modes. First impressions imply it’s a re-skin of Rainbow Riches Loco-Motion, but there is more going on once the game starts to provide some action. Treasure Train is actually one of the most complex and feature-rich Rainbow Riches games released, with multiple Premium Play options, gamble modes and four stake choices, all of which can be played on Premium Play.
The game blends traditional line-based slot play with modern collection mechanics, giant reels and hold-and-spin style bonuses, giving it a much more progressive and high-energy feel than older Rainbow Riches titles.
Stakes and RTP’s
Rainbow Riches Treasure Train runs on the standard B3 stake range from 20p up to £2 per spin. The maximum win is capped at £500, in line with current UK Category regulations.
The game uses a dual RTP system depending on whether Premium Play is enabled.
Without Premium Play, the minimum average payout percentages are:
-
88% at 20p
-
89% at 50p
-
90% at £1
-
92% at £2
With Premium Play activated, the RTP increases at the higher stakes:
-
88% at 20p
-
90% at 50p
-
92% at £1
-
94% at £2
This makes Premium Play especially valuable for players using £1 and £2 stakes, where the long-term return is noticeably improved. However, it’s important to note that the value of the free spins in halved when Premium Play is selected.

Rainbow Riches Treasure Train Symbols and Payouts
The base game uses a five-reel, three-row layout with ten fixed win lines. All line wins pay left to right starting from the leftmost reel. Only the highest win on each line is paid, and scatter wins are added to line wins.
Wild symbols substitute for all standard symbols except coin symbols and scatter symbols. Any wild that lands on the reels expands to the full height of the reel, increasing the chance of forming winning combinations across multiple lines.
The highest paying symbol in the game is the usual Rainbow Riches logo. Five of these pays £50 at £2 stake. The rainbow symbol pays up to £40 for five of a kind. The leprechaun hat and harp both pay up to £30. The mushroom and horseshoe symbol pays up to £24. The playing card symbols A, K, Q and J are the lowest paying, with five of a kind paying up to £20.
While the base game wins are reasonable, Treasure Train is designed so that most of the real value comes from its bonus features rather than regular spins.
Coin Collection and the Loco-Motion Bonus
A major feature of the game is the coin collection system. Coin symbols can land on the reels and are collected in front of a locomotive displayed on the screen.
When five or more coins appear in view at the same time, the Loco-Motion Bonus is activated.
The Loco-Motion Bonus is the core feature of the game. It is triggered when five or more coin symbols appear in view.
When activated, three Loco-Motion spins are awarded. The existing reels scroll to the left, revealing an extra spinning reel. This extra reel contains coins, Lucky Ticket symbols and blank spaces. Each spin processes any coins or Lucky Tickets that land and award an extra spin when a value is collected.
Coins pay their face value, while Lucky Tickets can trigger additional bonus features. After each spin, the reels scroll again to reveal another extra reel, at the cost of one Loco-Motion spin. This continues until all spins are used or the £500 maximum prize is reached.
Lucky Ticket Features
Lucky Ticket symbols can trigger three different bonus features, all of which can occur during both the Loco-Motion Bonus and the Free Spins Bonus.
Lucky Ticket Mystery Train triggers a train that moves across the screen. All cash values displayed on the train are added together and paid as a single win.
Lucky Ticket Super 8 presents eight small reels and starts with three spins. Each time a coin or Lucky Ticket lands, it locks in place and the spin counter resets to three. The feature continues until no spins remain, all reels are locked or the £500 maximum win is reached.
Lucky Ticket Cash Pot presents a large reel which spins to determine which of the available cash pots is awarded. The selected prize is paid immediately. As this bonus isn’t super high value, most pot hits will be the Mini or Major (there’s no Minor pot).
Free Spins Bonus
The Free Spins Bonus is triggered by three scatter symbols appearing on the last three reels. This awards eight free spins.
During Free Spins, the middle three reels are replaced by one giant reel that always lands fully in view, exactly the same as the original Rainbow Riches Loco-Motion. Any symbol on this giant reel counts as three symbols across the reels it replaces, significantly increasing the chance of large line wins should something connect.
Wild symbols on the first and last reels still expand to full height during Free Spins. Coin symbols can also land on the giant reel. When a coin lands in view during Free Spins, it pays its face value and triggers the Loco-Motion Bonus. Once the Loco-Motion Bonus ends, any remaining free spins resume. Multiple Loco-Motion bonuses during free spins are possible.
All wins during Free Spins are cumulative until the feature ends or the maximum prize of £500 is reached.
Premium Play
Premium Play unlocks two additional feature entry routes.
The Railway Riches option allows a win on the base reels to be gambled for one of three outcomes: a cash multiplier, the Loco-Motion Bonus, or the Free Spins Bonus.
The Free Spins Express option is a three-reel mini game that gives players a chance to instantly trigger Free Spins. This option halves the value of the reel wins.
Final Verdict
Rainbow Riches Treasure Train is a very volatile £500 jackpot slot from Light & Wonder. It is a step up from the original Loco-Motion, with more features and multiple Premium Play options. The first time I played the slot, it was really bad! But that can be gambling in general. I have revisited the game several more times, and the bonuses are fun and you can certainly see the reward potential. All in all, it’s a pretty decent addition to the Rainbow Riches family.
