You Picked the Most Hated Slots… So I Played Them
-
Stop and Step YouTube viewers submitted more than 180 comments, with players naming the slots they felt were the most frustrating to play.
-
Every mention was counted when building the list, meaning that games mentioned multiple times ranked higher based purely on how often players complained about them.
-
The final list highlights the slots that players most often described as difficult to bonus, low paying, or simply unlucky during their own sessions.
Every slot player has that one game they swear is cursed. The one that never seems to bonus, never seems to pay, and always feels like it owes them money. Some games build reputations for being generous, while others quietly earn the opposite reputation among players who feel they’ve been burned too many times.
To find out which slots players dislike the most, I posted on the community tab of my YouTube channel a simple question: what slot do you hate the most?
The response was huge. More than 180 comments came in, with players naming the games they avoid and sharing stories of brutal bonus rounds, long dry spells, and features that paid nothing, or next to nothing. Some comments were short and blunt, while others explained exactly why a particular slot had earned its place on their personal blacklist.
As the comments came in, certain names kept appearing again and again.
To build the list, every mention was counted. If multiple people complained about the same slot, it counted multiple times. The idea wasn’t to judge which games are objectively bad, but simply to see which ones players feel have treated them the worst.
One slot stood out more than any other.
Fishing Frenzy and its many variations dominated the discussion. Several players mentioned different versions of the game, including the original £500 jackpot slot, Megaways editions, and Premium Play variants. The most common complaint was how long it can take to trigger a bonus, followed by frustration when the feature finally arrives but pays very little.
Napoleon was another frequent choice, with players describing it as extremely volatile and difficult to bonus. Sun Kissed also appeared repeatedly, with several comments claiming the feature is incredibly hard to land. This was one that I personally had given up playing because of the difficulty in hitting the bonus.
Other familiar titles appeared multiple times as well. Eye of Horus and its variants were mentioned by several players who said the bonus rounds often deliver disappointing results. Gold Cash Free Spins earned criticism for low-paying, or £0 bonuses, while the addition Huff n Puff surprised me, appearing in several comments from players who joked that the game “owes them thousands”.
Classic £500 jackpot favourites like Soldier of Rome, Spartacus, and Burn Em Up also made the list, showing that even long-standing machines can develop tough reputations among players.
Based on the community responses, these were the most frequently mentioned “most hated” slots:
Fishing Frenzy (including its various versions) received the highest number of mentions overall.
Napoleon came in second, with multiple players describing it as very difficult to bonus.
Sun Kissed followed closely behind, with many players saying the feature can take a long time to trigger.
Eye of Horus and its different versions were also mentioned several times.
Gold Cash Free Spins drew criticism for its low-paying and zero paying bonus rounds.
Huff n Puff appeared in a number of comments.
Soldier of Rome, Spartacus, and Burn Em Up rounded out the most frequently criticised games.
Of course, no slot is truly programmed to treat players differently. Most games simply follow their return-to-player percentage and volatility. High-volatility slots can go long stretches without paying much, but when they do hit a feature the potential wins can be larger.
That design often explains why some games develop reputations for being “impossible to bonus”. A long dry spell can easily stick in a player’s memory, especially if the feature eventually lands and pays very little.
Still, when the same names appear repeatedly in a discussion, it’s interesting to see which games players feel have treated them the worst.
So instead of just talking about them, I decided to put the list to the test and actually play the most hated slots chosen by you. Each game was given a fair chance to see whether the reputation matches reality.
Are these slots genuinely as brutal as players say or do they simply have an unlucky reputation?
That’s exactly what I set out to find out in the video.
