Butterfly Staxx Slot
- A beautiful theme with a calming design that’s a welcome break from most others
- Relatively simple gameplay with a couple of original bonuses
- Overall a nice slot but lacking the big wins compared to many others
Butterfly Staxx slot comes to you from Netent and offers one of the most calming and beautiful themes we’ve seen. So many slots nowadays are very up in your face, flashy and full of animations. Now that can certainly be fun from time to time, but not always and some people will definitely appreciate this design. Everything from the graphics which, although they aren’t groundbreaking, are certainly more than sufficient to create a pleasing view to the actual symbols and background.
Moving on to the gameplay, we have here a fairly typical 5×4 layout with 40 pay lines. What’s more enticing though is the 96.8% RTP which is pretty high and probably enough to entice quite a few players. The aim of the game, of course, is to get a winning combination using the base symbols from left to right. These base symbols are listed as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:
- Jack, Queen, King and Ace (lowest value)
- Blue Flower, Purple Flower and Red Flower
- Yellow Butterfly (highest value)
As well as these base symbols with associated values, there is also a Wild symbol in the form of a flower that can appear anywhere on the reels not just in the main game but also during the re-spins. This symbol substitutes for all symbols in a winning combination apart from the Scatter symbol.
Butterfly Staxx Slot Bonuses and Features
Re-Spins. If the Butterfly symbol appears stacked on any reels, that is to say, if the entire reel is filled with Butterfly symbols, then the Re-Spins feature is activated. All of the Butterfly symbols will move to the leftmost position on the same row that is not already occupied by a Butterfly symbol and will stay in this position until the Re-Spins feature is over. All Butterfly symbols which land on the reels during the Re-Spins will also fly to the leftmost position on the same row that isn’t already occupied by a butterfly symbol, awarding another Re-Spin and staying locked in place. This will continue to happen until no more Butterfly symbols lands on the reels and any pay line wins are paid out.
Butterfly Spins. This is the main bonus of Butterfly Staxx slot and is activated when 3 or more Scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels during the base game. 3 Scatter symbols will offer you 5 Butterfly spins, 4 will give you 6 Butterfly spins and 5 will give you 7. During these spins, only Cocoon symbols can land on the reels which can be either dormant or active. The active ones that land on the reels will turn into Butterfly symbols. All of these will fly to the leftmost position on the same row not already occupied by a Butterfly symbol, just like with the Re-Spins, and all bet line wins are added to the total win. The Butterfly symbols remain on the screen until the end of the Butterfly spins.
That’s just about it for Butterfly Staxx slot by Netent and overall I think it’s pretty cool. The bonuses are pretty unique and tie in very nicely with the theme. I think the way the cocoons work is great and it’s really nice to see a slot do something different like this. That being said, even though the bonuses are original, they aren’t, unfortunately, very rewarding. It’s not bad, but don’t expect anything crazy or to go home with massive winnings. Now not all slots need this; lower variance slots don’t usually have many big payouts, but they do have more regular small wins and I don’t think this is enough here. It’s a bit disappointing as I really like the original gameplay and the theme is excellent, very calming and a great break from some of the more flashy slots we’ve seen such as the recently reviewed Spinal Tap slot. But I’m sure some will like it and it’s not that bad so I’d suggest giving it a go and see what you think.
