Our rating:
  • Expanding wilds upgrade symbols in the free spins bonus
  • Not the best-looking slot from the developer
  • A clear copy of Eye of Horus from Blueprint

Eye of Atum slot from PlayNGo is a new, Egyptian-themed game from the popular developer with expanding wilds and upgrading symbols. It might sound and look familiar, and that’s cause it’s clearly based on Eye of Horus from Blueprint. That slot is well-liked and will be tough to beat, so let’s take a look and see if it’s any good.

To start, you need to spin the reels. There are 5 of these with 3 rows, giving you 10 pay lines. You just need a winning combination from left to right using the base symbols. These are as follows, ranked in ascending order based on their value:

  • Jack, Queen, King or Ace
  • Ankh or Fan
  • Staff
  • Cat
  • Scarab
  • Eye of Horus

There is a wild symbol too that substitutes for all others in a winning combination apart from the scatter.

Eye of Atum Slot Bonuses and Features

Expanding Wilds. The wilds in this game don’t just substitute for other symbols, they also expand whenever they appear to cover the entire reel on which they land.

Free Spins Bonus. To trigger this, you need to land 3 or more scatter symbols, shown as pyramids. You also get a cash reward, starting off at 2x your stake for just 3 but going up to 500x if you manage to land 5 in any position on the screen. Once the bonus starts, the expanded wild symbols will upgrade the high-value symbols in the game to the next one above. If you’re lucky, you can upgrade all symbols to the Eye of Horus.

Conclusion

Eye of Atum slot from PlayNGo probably sounds very familiar, and that’s probably cause it’s heavily based on the popular Eye of Horus slot from Blueprint. Visually, it’s arguably better with improved graphics, although there is something endearing about the more traditional-looking Eye of Horus so it’s definitely a preference thing. The features are identical, however, with expanding wilds upgrading symbols in the free spins bonus. There’s no difference here really between these two slots, apart from the fact that this one pays much less, limited to just 2,000x compared to 10,000x. This is very disappointing as the volatility is pretty similar, so there’s no real reason to try this slot over the one it’s based on and I think PlayNGo could have done much better.
